ISTIKLAL DEFENCE FACTORY
According to the information received by the AA correspondent, Istiklal Defense decided to invest in ammunition production, taking into account the guidance of the Presidency of Defense Industry (SSB) and sectoral needs.
The facility, which was planned in accordance with NATO standards with the coordination of the Ministry of National Defense and the SSB, has reached the final stage before the construction activities. After this process, activities in the field will begin for the construction of the factory.
Capsule production (5.56 mm, 7.62 mm, 9 mm, 40 mm), lower, middle and upper group ammunition filling/production (5.56 mm, 7.62 mm, 9 mm, 40 mm, 60 mm, 81 mm, 120 mm, 122 mm, 155 mm) will be carried out at the facility.
8-10 months after the construction started, the first test production of the middle and upper group ammunition will be carried out. The production, which will start with 40 mm and upper group ammunition, will continue with capsules/pounds. At the end of 3 years, production will be started in all product groups.
The factory will have an annual production capacity of 1 billion boxer type capsules (5.56 mm, 7.62 mm, 9 mm). In the second year of production, this capacity will double.
In the subgroup ammunition (5.56 mm, 7.62 mm, 9 mm), 100 million units can be produced annually.
Within the scope of the middle group ammunition filling, 200 thousand 40 mm, 100 thousand 60-81mm, 50 thousand 120 mm ammunition can be provided annually.
122 mm Artillery Rocket (20-40 km) and 155 mm M101 HE will be produced for the upper group ammunition filling. In this context, 50 thousand 122 mm Grad and 155 mm HE ammunition can be produced annually.
An investment of 1.3 billion liras is foreseen for the ammunition factory in a 3-year period. When the factory starts operating, it will provide employment for 350 people. This number will reach 1200 people at the end of the 3rd year.
Elvan Çetinkaya, General Manager of Independence Defense, told Anadolu Agency (AA) that they have shaped their investment decisions to close the gap in the ammunition groups that the country needs.
Emphasizing that they carry out a meticulous work in line with the expectations and criteria of the MSB and SSB for the factory, Çetinkaya stated that these efforts have reached the final stage. Çetinkaya, “We are ready for construction and production at the end of comprehensive work. In this direction, we aim to start operating safely and bring these products to the security forces. Of course, we will not be limited to this. We know that there is a very serious demand for these products due to conflicts and security risks in various parts of the world. We also aim to offer our products to friendly and allied countries,” he said.
Stating that they will implement cooperation with Turkish defense industry companies and international companies working on various issues, Çetinkaya stated that they will reflect the gains here in their activities.
Explaining that after the factory started to operate in all product groups at the end of the 3rd year, they will start information transfer and R&D studies to produce semi-finished explosives, plugs and capsules this time, Çetinkaya noted that they aim to meet the needs in the country in these areas.
